Vervy A new kind of console to restore children’s love of sport Here is some alarming information obtained at the start of the search:

2 out of 3 children in France present a health risk due to an excessively sedentary lifestyle

Over 60% of 6-10 year olds do not move for more than 2 hours, posing major health risks
How might we change the relationship to sport by designing new ways of initiating motivating kids and make it super easy for them to have fun ?
Kids should do 60 minutes of moderate physical activity everyday

The physical activity is decreasing, the French are 17% more sedentary than before

The lack of activity cause 40 000 to 50 000 death per year

50% of 5 years old children have their own personal screen, not to mention the TV. Which mean that 95% of 5 years old have access to at least one screen at home
The main causes for sedentary lifestyle for children are:

Their excessive use of screens

Lack of motivation

Lack of access to outdoor facilities

During the ideation phase, we explored a number of ideas using post-it notes, which we grouped under A5 and A4 sheets containing stronger ideas.

We also organized ideation workshops, using the 6 hats method for example.
We tested the desirability of our concepts with pretotypes and finally chose to develop the third concept to create Vervy. The sensors are easy to install and have been designed to be installed and removed quickly and easily by children, using technology that mimics the way geckos cling.
The sensors are connected to the base by wireless technology, to offer minis-games. They are able to turn on. Produce sound and are equipped with mini projector to allow the child to immerse himself and easily understand what he must do without having to refer to a manual or a virtual tutorial
The database is also connected to the parent’s mobile via a dedicated application to download games, see the statistics of children, but also the games they prefer and advise the parent on sports that could please children

Ideation and workshop
Pre-concept
Sporty buddy

The aim of this concept was to provide a motivating companion for children. Inspired by similar toys, we imagined a small device including various functions such as a pedometer or a bpm sensor. The device had to set small, personalized goals to motivate children to engage in physical activity, and thus earn rewards. It could also be connected to a friend's device, or attached to accessories such as a wristband to resemble a watch.
Sporty personality

Our second concept offered a subscription service delivering monthly boxes containing sports discovery kits. At the end of the month, the child entered his or her sporting achievements in a logbook and returned the box to receive a new one. The parent could scan the pages of the booklet to receive increasingly personalized boxes to help the child discover the sport that suits him or her best.
Sporty party

Our latest concept consists of a set of sensors that can be placed in a room to offer a variety of games requiring the child to engage in physical activity.
Pretotype
We took the concept a step further, creating a new kind of game console that makes very little use of the screen (which is only used to select a profile, a game and a game mode) and instead uses sensors, light, sound and projections to create an atmosphere and encourage physical activity.
